Stratigraphic Prediction Course

Cossey & Associates Inc. has recently developed this course in cooperation with RPS Group and it is now available for presentation. The course is a three-day introduction to techniques used to predict stratigraphy and facies. Predictive stratigraphic analysis is a process which is often used to help identify the stratigraphic facies before drilling a well or to assist in the understanding of stratigraphic complexities of a field. This course has been presented in 2014 to the exploration department of Ecopetrol. Course presenters are Dr. Stephen Cossey and Lynne Goodoff (RPS Group).

3-Day Schedule

Day 1 - BASIC CONCEPTS

  • Introduction
  • General Seismic Attribute discussion
  • Introduction to Predictive Seismic facies
  • Seismic Facies recognition criteria
  • Well/Seismic calibration
  • Biostratigraphy
  • Depositional Environments and facies analysis
  • Case Studies

Day 2 - MAPPING AND CLASS EXERCISE

  • Carbonate Predictive Seismic facies
  • Seismic Geomorphology
  • Mapping
  • Class Exercise

Day 3 - GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL EXERCISES

  • Continuation of Class Exercise
  • Discussion of individual projects

A course manual and a CD is provided to all participants.

The "Stratigraphic Prediction Course" can also be customized to specific company needs by choosing from the course modules. Participants may also bring examples/problems to discuss during the last day of the class.
